A homeless count that was conducted on January 29, 2009, identified a total of 1,368 homeless individuals in the 14-county Midlands region, with 1,006 of those homeless individuals identified in Lexington and Richland counties.  While the one-day count methodology is prescribed by HUD and is used across the country, the obvious difficulty of finding and counting homeless people leads experts to believe the actual count could be two to three times this number.  Learn More.
